Universal Container, Inc. has been supplying packaging products and services on an international scale for over 20 years.
The company began as one of the first custom designers and manufacturers of corrugated plastic containers. In the early 1980’s, most people had not heard of corrugated plastic, until the United States Postal Service began using the opaque-colored “post office totes”. Universal Container’s extensive marketing and sales efforts helped pave the way for this growing industry. Today, the material is seen everywhere and in all types of industries.
Leading Supplier
Universal has remained a leader in promoting the use of corrugated plastic throughout many diverse industries. We have been the leading supplier of ESD containers for the consumer electronics industry on the west coast and in Mexico. Other successful product lines have included carousel bin boxes, WIP containers, and other various styles of tote-boxes. Many of our products have been featured in trade publications over the past 2 decades.
Innovation
Universal Container has also been an innovator for agricultural applications of corrugated plastic. So far, the product line has evolved to include harvest pick-totes, asparagus boxes, berry trays, and many new designs currently in various stages of testing. Enormous growth in the asparagus box program has occurred, with more and more growers and stores demanding this product every day.
Diversity
Building on the success of the corrugated plastics division, the company has continued diversifying into other industries. A need was perceived for high quality packaging for the growing construction industry on the west coast, so Universal Container embarked on designing and marketing top-quality multi-wall bags, with the goal of superior product performance and top-notch customer service. The success of this program has allowed Universal Container to supply millions of bags a month to customers throughout California, Arizona, and New Mexico, and plans are in place to increase marketing and sales efforts in this industry.
Quality
Universal Container’s reputation as a top-quality packaging supplier led to its expansion into the retail packaging industry. This product line has grown to include clamshells, blister packs, and other custom thermoformed products, as well as contract packaging services. This program has grown exponentially, with a customer list that includes many of today’s leading retail companies, including Wal-Mart, Costco, and Sears.
Ongoing Research
Our reputation of being “before our time” with many of our products and designs has helped in the launch of our newest packaging innovation-- tamper–evident banded clamshells. Universal Container introduced the line at the 2003 PMA show in Orlando, and also showcased it at the United Produce Expo in Chicago this year. This product addresses the need for a cost-efficient way to help ensure food safety for the consumer.
